Gamma Knife radiosurgery for tumors and brain diseases

We established the Ibn Al-Haytham Center for Gamma Nayef in Amman – Jordan in the year (1996) for the treatment of tumors and brain diseases without surgery. Among about (320) global centers

(Update and development in 2015)
We developed and modernized the center by introducing the latest
(PERFEXION Gamma Knife)
With this device, we have introduced the most advanced technology

This technology provides the doctor and the patient with comfort, speed, accuracy and all stages of treatment, and the treatment accuracy ratio is about one in ten milliliters. The idea of Gamma Knife is considered the latest modern technology in the field of brain surgery and treatment of tumors and brain diseases, and the name Gamma Knife is a metaphor as it is not a knife but rather precise as a knife when directing gamma-type beams of radiation to the tumor or target inside the brain so that they are specific to damage the tumor and safe for the adjacent healthy brain tissue And surrounding the tumor

The Gamma Knife treatment mechanism for tumors and brain diseases depends on determining the external borders of the tumor by means of magnetic imaging, tomography, or a three-dimensional arterial catheter (stereotactic imaging), that is, after installing the corrective surgery device (stereotactic) on the patient`s head with local anesthesia and making the aforementioned images, after which the plan is made. The therapeutic Gamma Plan is where we direct gamma-type focused beams to the target or tumor inside the brain from (192) therapeutic beam tubes, in one sitting, with pinpoint accuracy and without causing any damage to the healthy brain tissue surrounding the tumor

The patient is fully conscious during the treatment, which takes place on the morning of the day of treatment, and leaves him in the evening of the same day and can go about his usual work the next day

Gamma Knife Treatment Steps

-Installing a stereotactic surgery device on the patient`s head using local anesthesia and the patient is fully conscious.

3D color magnetic resonance imaging procedure.
– A cerebral arteriography is performed in the case of congenital arteriovenous contact (Stereotactic Brain MRI with Contrast)
(Cerebral Angiography)

-Transfer the three-dimensional images to the Gamma Knife computer and conduct the accurate treatment plan for therapeutic radiation doses.
(Gamma Plan)

– Bring the patient and place him on the table the Gamma Knife device and the patient in full consciousness and give him the therapeutic radiation doses
Without causing any pain or even without feeling it

Successful completion of the therapeutic radiation dose administration, we remove the (stereotactic) device from the patient`s head and remove it from
The hospital, with a detailed report on the treatment procedures and future plan to follow up on the case. The patient can return to his usual work the next day

Gamma Knife results of treatment

(Three hundred thousand cases) until now.
The results were excellent compared to the traditional microsurgery, which is characterized by the absence of
Anesthesia, wounds, haemorrhage and infections, while avoiding complications from conventional surgery
For meningiomas and cranial nerve tumors such as acoustic neuroma and pituitary tumors, the success rate in controlling these tumors reached 92% during the three years following the treatment either by shrinking the tumor or turning it into a dormant mass. Also, the success rate of closing congenital arteriovenous connections with Gamma Knife is up to 90%.During the three years following treatment. In the case of treating the fifth nerve pain, which has progressed and became unresponsive to treatment, the success rate reaches 90%, whether by controlling the pain completely or partially, and the improvement occurs gradually during the three months following the treatment. In the event that pain returns after treatment with Gamma Knife, there is scope to treat the pain again with Gamma Knife after six months or more
And when the fifth trigeminal neuralgia occurs at the age of youth or under the age of fifty, we offer them the option of microsurgery to separate the artery in the brain base causing the pain from the nerve roots while keeping the Gamma Knife treatment option in place. We have treated more than 1,300 cases in our center so far and since its establishment, we have based our selection of the candidate cases for treatment on the purely scientific method and the long experience and expertise of our colleagues in international centers. Our patient treatment results were consistent with global ratios
